“War” (Clarian Sonnet Form)

This is a Clarian sonnet form and it was a prompt given Dverse Poetics.

Enthusiasm of bloodthirsty led war

in which harmony was hurled away far,

Countrymen became the prey of bloodshed,

and whole land covered with their bodies dead,

Women’s wailings and children’s cries of pain

remembered the glory of their dead men,

Troops behind walls shooted till their lives last

against the foe stepping towards them fast,

Noise of firing bullets,cannons around

let the hopes of people in borders bound,

And even the people for their life begged,

Although the king fought for their self-respect,

And when everything got mixed in the land

Nobody was existed till the end.

  1. you capture some of the terrors of war very vividly… the wailing and desperation…the line with the king somehow reminded me of the story in the bible where the enemies surrounded the city and things got out of hand and the king tore his clothes because he was desperate just by what he saw and knew he couldn’t do anything to change it…

  2. You deal in this sonnet with the terrifying circumstances of war, and weave the horrors like an ill wind throughout the composition. Not a traditional subject for a Clarian sonnet, but it works here, most definitely.

  3. ugh….war what is it good for…absolutely nothing…but it is the only way we know to affect change it seems…so much horror comes with war and you def hit it here….nice use of the form to make a message as well…

  4. War is painful and heartbreaking… Great post.
